KATU YVYV: State Rep. Maxine Dexter on running in Oregon's third congressional district

Published: January 21st 2024

PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — An Oregon race that’s going to draw a lot of attention in the May primary is taking place in Oregon’s third congressional district.

The Democrat who wins the primary is likely to win the seat in the general election.

Democrats heavily outnumber Republicans in the district that covers most of Multnomah County, a portion of Clackamas County and all of Hood River County.

This is the seat Earl Blumenauer has been representing for nearly three decades.

He announced last year he's not running for re-election.

This congressional seat is attracting numerous Democrats who know opportunities like this don’t come along often.

Former Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal, Gresham City Councilor Eddy Morales, and State Representative and doctor Maxine Dexter have all announced they are running for the seat.

Maxine Dexter joins Steve Dunn on this week’s edition of Your Voice, Your Vote.
